A group of volunteers from Serve with Liberty, Liberty Mutual Insurance’s employee community service program, spent the day at NECHV and gave their time and elbow grease. In 2015, more than 28,200 Liberty Mutual Insurance employees completed 2,548 service projects in their communities in 21 countries around the world. This year, NECHV was pleased to welcome them for a special project.
Part of the Center’s ongoing Permanent Supportive Housing and Recapitalization Project is maintaining and honoring the history of the building. Constructed in 1908, the building began as a bank, serving as a home to the Old Colony Trust Company. Serve with Liberty volunteers were tasked with making an original feature of our historic building shine: the large bank vault doors that once protected people’s most valuable possessions.
Years of disuse made this no easy feat, but the team worked hard and by the end of their visit they had restored the doors to their original glory. This important task helps to ensure that the Veterans served by the Center have a beautiful building in which they can focus on achieving their goals of sustainable, independent living. We are deeply grateful for all of the Serve with Liberty volunteers’ hard work on behalf of the Veterans we serve!
