A group that included a panel of local Vietnam Veterans gathered at the New England Center and Home for Veterans (NECHV) on Wednesday, September 13, to watch a preview of the new ten-part documentary series from Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. The screening and panel discussion was generously sponsored by Bank of America as part of their initiative to foster understanding between different perspectives through dialogue and their long-standing commitment to serving Veterans.
The 45 minute preview evoked an emotional response from the panelists. Speaking one at a time, they shared their initial responses to the film, as well as reflections on the war and the time following their homecomings. One resounding theme from the panel was that it is time for Vietnam Veterans to receive the same respect and care that is due to all Veterans; as one panelist said, “it is time to say to them, very simply, ‘Welcome home’.”
The NECHV is grateful to Bank of America for making this educational and moving event possible. We sincerely thank our guests for joining us, and we extend our deepest gratitude to our panelists for their bravery in sharing their experiences, and for their service in the Armed Forces. The NECHV strives to be a physical and emotional home for Veterans of every era seeking support and will continue to ensure that every Veteran is welcome.
