On November 4th, over 500 attendees filled the Seaport World Trade Center to support NECHV’s mission and honor those who embody Leave No One Behind.
The night began with the presentation of the colors and a beautifully sung National Anthem from Damage Controlman 1st Class James M. Hough, of the USS Constitution. Sister Patricia Heath of the Holy Union Sisters delivered the invocation. The Salem High School Marching Band, led by Director Cynthia Napierkowski, returned for the second year in a row, and played an uplifting medley of military songs.
The event included both a live and silent auction, with some fantastic and exclusive items up for bid. The live auction offered a Bobby Orr package, with an autographed framed photo of “The Goal”, an autographed book and puck, and a stick used by Orr himself; a VIP getaway to Martha’s Vineyard for the annual Wine Festival; a trip to Oregon’s Willamette Valley; a private dinner by Executive Chef Richard Rayment of the Seaport Hotel and wine pairings from Trifecta Wines; and a place aboard a Tall Ship during the Grand Parade of Sail in June 2017.
The honorees of the evening were the Honorable Martin J. Walsh, Mayor of Boston, who received the Brian A. Brooks for Distinguished Service for Veterans Award; Corporate Partner Honoree, the Arbella Insurance Foundation; and Veteran and artist Tobi Makinde, who received the Battlefield Citation. The Keynote Speaker was Former Staff Sergeant and Medal of Honor recipient Ryan Pitts, who eloquently talked about his service and the selflessness of others he witnessed in battle.
