Hundreds Joined Together to Build Care Packages for Veterans at NECHV on the 15th Anniversary of September 11, 2001

Each year the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund (MMHF) holds an event in honor of September 11th where volunteers work alongside MMHF staff to build care packages for active duty service members overseas and local Veterans. The group also held a pledge drive for military families in need. NECHV was honored to once again be the beneficiary of 500 packages for Veterans receiving services at the Center.

This year, the New England Patriots ran a drive to help MMHF gather items to fill CityPaks for Veterans at NECHV. CityPaks are versatile backpacks that are designed to meet the unique and changing needs of those facing homelessness. The bags include an emergency contact card the can be filled out and kept inside, a rain poncho that fits in a slot at the bottom of the bag, extensive storage space, and loops that attach to a person’s arm or leg to protect against theft.

On September 11th, volunteers gathered on the Rose Kennedy Greenway to fill the CityPaks with additional items like essential toiletries, socks, and shower shoes. NECHV President and CEO Andy McCawley attended the event to thank all the volunteers and organizations who gave their time and effort in addition to donating items, and to speak about the significance of the event and the positive impact the care packages have on the Veterans who receive them.

NECHV extends its warm thanks to MMHF, the New England Patriots, all the organizational sponsors and supporters of the event, and the many volunteers who contributed to the resounding success of the day.
